Small Streams Fishing Report 11-06-2018

Location

Area Small Streams

Overview

Fall is here. Small streams can be hit or miss this time of year. Fishing is dependent on flows (or lack there of) and temps. Be on the lookout for spawning Brown and Brook trout and try to avoid their redds. Unfortunately, due to the Dollar Ridge Fire the Strawberry Pinnacles access road is closed and we expect there to be a pretty substantial fish kill.

Latest Flows

Most small streams are at their winter flows for the year (17cfs seems to be a common theme). For up to date stream flows you can check out: https://waterdata.usgs.gov/ut/nwis/current/?type=flow

Small Streams Fishing Report 09-02-2018

Location

Area Small Streams

Overview

Late Summer into early Fall is time to get out on Utah’s small streams.  Enjoy them before Winter sets in!  It’s terrestrial season.  Throw hoppers, ants, or stimulators.  Look for midges and tricos in the mornings and you will also still see some PMD’s mid day and Caddis activity in the evenings.  Unfortunately, due to the Dollar Ridge Fire the Strawberry Pinnacles access road is closed and we expect there to be a pretty substantial fish kill.

Weber River Fishing Report 09/02/2018

Location

Weber River

Overview

Fishing on the Weber has been great this summer.  There are still some PMD’s midday and Caddis flying around into the evening.  Early in the morning there is a decent midge hatch as well.  During the late summer and into the Fall, you can find some great terrestrial fishing.  Keep on moving and working the banks with a hopper or an ant pattern.

The Weber has been busy this summer due to high flows on the Lower and Middle Provo River, but as flows subside there angling pressure will spread out across the region.  Enjoy the cooler temps and great fishing!

200 CFS below Rockport Reservoir

Current Hatches

Midges, PMD’s, Caddis, Terrestrials.

Middle Provo River Fishing Report 09/02/2018

Location

Middle Provo River

Overview

The water is still high, but the fishing is good. The river is still crossable in many places but make sure to use caution when stepping off the bank. A wading stick is never a bad option when the flows are a little high.

The dry fly fishing on the Middle has been consistent with Caddis coming off early in the mornings and PMDs starting around mid-morning. The classic evening caddis hatches on the Provo are well underway with some great dry fly fishing occurring right at dusk.

Nymph fishing remains productive on the Provo.  In the mornings try sow bugs and midges.  As the day progresses start switching to PMD’s and Caddis flies.

Lower Provo River Fishing Report 09/02/2018

Location

Lower Provo River

Overview

After this weekend the rafters should be subsiding for the year.  Flows are still a little bit high on the Lower due to downstream water demands, but the fishing can be good.  If your nymphing, stick to scuds, sow bugs, midges, San Juan worms, or PMD’s.  For dry flies try ants, hoppers, and some PMD’s.  With the higher flows and Fall approaching streamer fishing is a great option to try.  I usually stick to smaller, classic streamers on the Provo; Zonkers, Wooly Buggers, Leech patterns, etc.
